SCOTTISH TRANSPORT STATISTICS No 22 - 2003 Edition

INFORMATION AVAILABLE FROM THE TRANSPORT STATISTICS PAGES OF THE SCOTTISH EXECUTIVE STATISTICS WEB SITE

1. Transport Statistics publications may be found on the Scottish Executive (SE) Statistics Web site. Go to: http://www.scotland.gov.uk/stats/land.htm

and click on the link, in the middle of the screen, labelled "Transport, Travel and Tourism". Then scroll through the list of publications to find the one(s) of interest. You should be able to "copy and paste" numbers from the tables in the Web versions into your own spreadsheets.

2. A new version of the SE Statistics Web site should have "gone live" by the time this edition is published. It will have several "Transport Statistics" pages, providing:

  • access to the "on-line" version of each Transport Statistics publication since Spring 1998;
  • other information - e.g. on arrangements for consulting users and providers; and
  • links to other Web sites.

3. These pages will also provide access to Excel spreadsheet versions of the tables in:

  • the latest Scottish Transport Statistics;
  • the latest editions of each of our other publications;
  • the previous two editions of Scottish Transport Statistics; and
  • some of the previous editions of some of our other publications.

4. The Transport Statistics Web pages will also provide access to updated versions of some of the tables and charts in the following instances:-

(a) when a further year's figures become available for those of the "key" topics in Scottish Transport Statistics which are "a year behind" the rest of the publication (e.g. those for which the Summary table shows "not available" for the latest year, such as the bus and coach statistics and port/waterborne freight statistics in this edition). We will update copies of the relevant Chapter and Summary tables and charts which show the "key" figures (we will not necessarily update all the tables for each such topic), and make these available separately from the version of the document that is published on the SE Web site (it is not practicable to update the material in the electronic version of the publication); and

(b) to correct any errors that are found in published tables.

5. We will announce each "release" of updated versions of Scottish Transport Statistics tables by e-mails to the ScotStat "Transport" mailing list, and any other of our customers whom we think are likely to be interested in the figures. If you would like to register as a user of Transport statistics, please go to http://www.scotland.gov.uk/stats/scotstats.asp and click on 'access the SCOTSTAT register'. You can then enter your details, including your subject areas of interest, in the register.

6. The Web address of the forthcoming Transport Statistics pages is not available at the time of going to press. However, it is expected that you will be able to get to them via:

http://www.scotland.gov.uk/statistics.

If you have difficulty, please:

  • e-mail transtat@scotland.gsi.gov.uk and we will send you a link to the new Transport Statistics pages, once they have "gone live";
  • or contact Scott Brand, Transport Statistics branch, 2C13 (Dockside), Victoria Quay, Edinburgh, EH6 6QQ (tel: 0131 244 7255) for further information.
