LHCCs have an important and growing role in assessing and improving the health of local communities. It is important that the school is seen as part of the community.

Effective links with the LHCC will enable joint work with other primary care professionals.

• Nurses in schools play a key role in the LHCC public health workforce, working closely with public health practitioners.

• The LHCC regards nurses working in schools as an integral part of the public health nursing team, supporting flexible innovative working.

• Nurses working in schools work as part of a wider LHCC nursing team, ensuring appropriate access to specialist expertise.

• Working relationships with other professional colleagues in the LHCC ensures an effective integrated response to the health needs of school children.

• The LHCC regard school aged children and their families as an important community and work with partner agencies to ensure a consistent and integrated approach to addressing their health needs.
