Report of the Child Protection Audit and Review

Acknowledgements

The case audit and review were undertaken by a multi-disciplinary team comprising education, medicine, nursing, police, Scottish Children's Reporter Administration and social work professionals, with assistance from Scottish Executive analytical services.

We are indebted to a number of colleagues working with children without whom this review would not have been possible.

A major resource has been young people's contributions to our understanding of their experiences. We are particularly grateful to:

  • Aberlour Child Care Trust
  • Barnardos
  • Children First
  • Who Cares, Scotland?
  • Women's Aid

who undertook interviews with children and young people on our behalf; and to ChildLine Scotland and Children 1st, ParentLine Scotland volunteers and staff who gave considerable time to collecting data for analysis for the review.

We owe thanks to the link officers of those agencies we inspected for organising our programmes so efficiently. We would also like to thank the 439 staff we interviewed, and others whose work we examined, for their assistance with the case audit.

The Consultative Group gave us excellent advice and support throughout the project and helpfully commented on our approach and the findings as they emerged. The Chairs of Child Protection Committees with whom we also consulted offered us helpful comments.
