THE EFFECTIVENESS OF TREE PRESERVATION ORDERS IN SCOTLAND
ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS
I should like to acknowledge in particular the enthusiastic and extensive contributions made by local authority officials identified in Appendix 1. In addition, equally valuable comments and ideas were put forward by the 49 other individuals identified in this appendix. Whilst I would be justified in highlighting all of these names, a special mention must be made of the contribution made by Graham Hinshelwood of Edinburgh Council at the initial stages in this study. His patience and constant good humour enabled me to come to grips with the many issues linked to TPOs and to focus my subsequent efforts in a meaningful form.
The positive orientation offered by the Advisory Group chaired by Kester Gibson (Scottish Executive Development Department: Planning) must also be recorded. The other 4 members of the Group included James Ogilvie (Forestry Commission); Jim Knight (Scottish Borders Council); John Gunstone (Scottish Executive Development Department); and David Milne (Scottish Executive Environment and Rural Affairs Department).
