 | Funding for roll out The Minister for Education and Young People has confirmed roll out funding allocations over the next 2 years for 30 councils across Scotland. Making announcements on 27 May and 2 July Cathy Jamieson said: "The new community school approach is central to our strategy for closing the attainment gap. By encouraging the provision of integrated services focused on the needs of the individual child we can make a real difference to the lives of children and their families. This approach is essential to securing positive outcomes _ not only for the children's education, but also for their social welfare, their health and the communities in which they live." It is hoped that funding arrangements for roll out will be agreed with the remaining two councils in the near future. |

A Note from the Editors
Issue 5 "Engaging the Community" appears to have been well received with many authorities able to provide evidence of good practice in this key area.
The theme for this Issue (No 6) is "Sustaining the Progress". There are interesting times ahead; the roll out of the new community school approach, For Scotland's Children Action Plan and the related Changing Children's Services Fund are all to be implemented.
Many authorities responded to the request for information on how they will be "Sustaining the Progress". As you might expect a variety of approaches will be taken which reflect local needs and the evaluation of pilot developments.
As usual we are only able to give a flavour of the exciting and innovative ways in which authorities are approaching this issue.
Please feel free to comment on this issue as there is no such thing as the "finished article". Many thanks to all those who were able to contribute to this issue!
