Evaluation of the Pilot In-Court Advice Project: Phase 2

It will assess the structural role of the ICA project in relation to wider civil justice resources and systems operating in Edinburgh and provide information on the operation and impact of its mediation component.

Characteristics of People with Dementia as Users and Non-Users of the Legal System in Scotland

Child Contact Centres: Family and Referrer Expectations and Experiences

Preliminary findings from the Child Contact Centre overview research identified the large number of court and solicitor referrals to contact centres. This project is concerned with examining the extent of diverging and converging expectations and experiences of contact centres amongst users and referrers.

Recruitment to the Legal Profession: Issues Relevant to Improving Diversity

This project is looking at recruitment into law courses within Scottish Universities, and the subsequent career choices made by law students with particular reference to issues related to improving diversity.

The Physical Chastisement of Children

This project concerns the generation of baseline information to subsequently monitor the impact of new legislation relating to smacking. It will cover both attitudes and actions in relation to physical chastisement.

Protection from Abuse (Scotland) Act 2001: Baseline Information

A baseline is required to subsequently monitor the impact of new legislation which becomes effective in February. The research will be progressed by an analysis of relevant cases in the three months preceding and subsequent to the introduction of the legislation and through canvassing the views of those interacting with the Act (users, the police, fiscals and sheriffs).

This project was commissioned to support the deliberations of the Review of Legal Information and Advice Provision in Scotland. The focus of this study was on gathering up to date information on the relevance and distribution of civil disputes in Scotland, how people responded to problems and why they responded in particular ways.
