Cabinet Secretary for Health and Wellbeing today announced the re-appointment of a member to the Scottish Ambulance Service Board.

Mr Andrew Richmond was formerly a number one rated stockbroking healthcare analyst in the City of London and, most recently, was a Director of Covenant Healthcare, a private healthcare provider, which was sold in 2005. Mr Richmond is a graduate of the University of Edinburgh and is married with two children. He is a member of the Court of the University of Dundee. He has been a Member of the Scottish Ambulance Service Board since 2006 and also serves as Vice-Chair. Andrew's focus on appropriate governance processes and specialist skills have been invaluable to the Board. His ability to challenge constructively and offer solutions; and his external perspective, as a member of a territorial Health Board, has been of particular benefit.

This re-appointment will be for 4 years and will run from October 1, 2010 to September 30, 2014.

This post is part-time and attracts a remuneration of £8,008 for a time commitment of 8 hours per week.

Mr Richmond is a non-executive member of Tayside NHS Board for which he receives an annual remuneration of £8,008.

The Scottish Ambulance Service Board plays an integral part in the day to day operation of the NHS in Scotland and provides the emergency ambulance service and other non-emergency patient transport services.

This Ministerial public appointment was made in accordance with the Commissioner for Public Appointments in Scotland's Code of Practice.

All appointments are made on merit and political activity plays no part in the selection process. However, in accordance with the original Nolan recommendations, there is a requirement for appointees' political activity within the last 5 years (if there is any to be declared) to be made public.
