Statistics on eye examinations were published today by ISD Scotland.
Minister for Public Health Shona Robison said:
"It is encouraging to see that the number of people accessing free NHS eye examinations continues to increase.
"NHS eye examination are now free for all and are tailored to the needs and symptoms of the patients allowing them to receive, free of charge, an appropriate health assessment of their whole visual system.
"It is vitally important that people have their eyes examined regularly. Eye examinations provide a general health check and are able to identify a number of conditions, not just whether glasses are needed.
"Diabetes affects a patient's eyesight so it is also encouraging to see that uptake of free NHS eye examination for diabetic sufferers has increased."
