GDP 1st quarter 2010

Scotland's Chief Statistician today announced the release of Gross Domestic Product for Scotland for 2010 Q1.

This quarterly publication measures growth, in real terms, in Gross Domestic Product at Basic Prices, also known as Gross Value Added, for Scotland.

The main findings are:

  • GDP remained at the same level between the fourth quarter of 2009 and the first quarter of 2010. On an annual basis (4Q on 4Q basis) it fell by 3.5 per cent to the end of March 2010
  • In the year to end-March 2010, the Scottish service sector fell by 2.4 per cent, the production sector fell by 7.1 per cent and the construction sector fell by 8.3 per cent
  • During the first quarter of 2010, the service sector fell by 0.2 per cent, the production sector remain unchanged and the construction sector grew by 2.8 per cent
