Appointment to Lothian NHS board

Cabinet Secretary for Health & Wellbeing today announced the appointment of a new Public Partnership Forum member to Lothian NHS Board.
The new member is:
Billy Peacock is Chairman of Midlothian Public Partnership Forum and is a member of the Scottish Health Council as a local advisory council member. Mr Peacock is actively engaged within the community and has valuable skills to bring to the Board through his involvement with a variety of local networks. This appointment will fulfil the commitment to undertake alternative pilots to direct elections, which was given to Parliament during the passage of the Health Board (Membership and Elections) (Scotland) Act 2009.
This appointment is part of the alternative pilots to direct elections and will last for the duration of the pilot exercise which will be for a minimum period of two years. Mr Peacock started his appointment on June 10, 2010.
This post is part-time and attracts a remuneration of £8,008 for a time commitment of around eight hours per week.
Lothian NHS Board is responsible for the strategic planning of health services and the development of measures to improve the health of the community in the Lothian area.
Mr Peacock does not hold any other Ministerial Appointments.
This Ministerial public appointment was made in accordance with the Commissioner for Public Appointments in Scotland's Code of Practice.
All appointments are made on merit and political activity plays no part in the selection process. However, in accordance with the original Nolan recommendations, there is a requirement for appointees' political activity within the last five years (if there is any to be declared) to be made public. Mr Peacock has not been involved in any political activity.
