Social Economy 2009

25/03/2010

Scotland's Chief Statistician today released Social Economy 2009 - data used to monitor the national indicator to increase the turnover of the social economy in Scotland.

The social economy captures the economic activity of the third sector, which embraces voluntary and community organisations, charities, social enterprises, and some mutuals and co-operatives.

The main finding is that at March 2009, the social economy turnover in Scotland stood at £3,064 million. This represents a 4.3 per cent increase (in real terms) since March 2008.

The estimated social economy turnover uses a proxy methodology based around data from the Inter-Departmental Business Register and the Scottish Housing Regulator.
