DEFRA’s Landfill Ban consultation

Responding to DEFRA's Landfill Ban consultation, Environment Secretary Richard Lochhead said:
"Scotland is making excellent progress in reducing waste to landfill and met the 2010 EU Landfill Directive target over a year early. However, we must keep up the good work and help people and businesses further reduce, reuse and recycle.
"Our recent consultation on the future of Scotland's waste management included proposals for landfill bans and respondents to the consultation were in support of this approach. Our final Zero Waste Plan will be published in May and will detail how Scotland intends to move forward in this area. The consultation document now released by DEFRA takes a similar approach and asks respondents for their views on the use of landfill bans."
