FM leads Trident protest
13/03/2010
First Minister Alex Salmond today led a protest march against the replacement of Trident in Edinburgh.
Organised by Scotland's for Peace and the CND, the First Minister will join actor David Hayman, Reverend Ian Galloway, CND Chair Kate Hudson, Mark Lazarowicz MP and John Barrett MP for the march and rally.
Mr Salmond said:
"The Scottish Government completely opposes the replacement of the Trident system and the dumping of deadly nuclear weapons in Scotland.
"Most MSPs and members of the public share this Government's view that Scotland should be nuclear free. Through action, such as the Trident Protest this Saturday, we can send a strong message to the UK Government that we will not stand for the dumping of weapons of mass destruction in Scotland."
The march began outside the Scottish Parliament and ended with a rally at the Grassmarket and speeches from an open top bus.
