H1N1 deaths

An older person treated by NHS Lothian, an adult treated by NHS Lanarkshire and a child treated by NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde have died after contracting H1N1, Health Secretary Nicola Sturgeon confirmed today.

The child and older patient had underlying health conditions but the adult had no recorded underlying conditions.

Health Secretary Nicola Sturgeon said:

"I am saddened to hear of these latest deaths and my thoughts are with both families.

"H1N1 is mild for most but if you are worried about your symptoms or the symptoms of a friend or family member please seek urgent medical advice."

To protect patient confidentiality we will now only be reporting the following information in any H1N1 death:

  • Whether the patient was a child, elderly person or adult
  • Which health board area they were a patient of
  • The presence of underlying health conditions or pregnancy
