Best of Scottish Meat
30/11/2009
The finest of Scottish produce was on display at the 23rd annual Scotch Premier Meat Christmas Carcase Show today.
Agriculture Secretary Richard Lochhead said:
"It is fitting that on St Andrew's Day we are here to celebrate one of Scotland's true strengths - our naturally reared, top quality produce.
"Scotch beef and lamb is recognised the world over for its quality and cements our reputation as a land of food and drink. Scotland's first ever food and drink policy has helped to increase sales of Scottish brands by one-fifth since May 2007 and Scotch beef has become the top selling Scottish brand throughout the British Isles.
"Despite the economic downturn we will not take our eye off our aim of growing Scotland's food and drink industry to reach £10 billion by 2017.
"To help meet this aim the Government, in conjunction with Quality Meat Scotland, has launched the Meat Eating Quality Project an initiative which will allow us to measure the eating quality of meat and further drive up consumer confidence."
