Cabinet Secretary for Health and Wellbeing Nicola Sturgeon today announced the re-appointment of a Non-Executive member to Borders NHS Board.

Adrian Lucas is an independent Executive Coach and lives in Peebles. He has served as a Non Executive Director with NHS Borders for the past two years. Before joining NHS Borders Adrian gained over 34 years experience in the NHS and was formerly Chief Executive of the Scottish Ambulance Service, leading the organisation through its most significant period of modernisation and change until September 2007. He does not hold any other ministerial appointments.

This re-appointment will be for a period of 4 years from December 1, 2009 to November 30, 2013.

This post is part time with a time commitment of eight hours per week for which the annual remuneration is £7,904.

Borders NHS Board is responsible for the strategic planning of health services and the development of measures to improve the health of the community in the Borders region.

This Ministerial re-appointment was made in accordance with Commissioner for Public Appointments in Scotland (OCPAS) Code of Practice.

All appointments are made on merit and political activity plays no part in the selection process. However, in accordance with the original Nolan recommendations, there is a requirement for appointees' political activity (if any declared) to be made public. Within the last five years, Mr Lucas has not been involved in any political activity.
