Progress against NHSScotland HEAT targets

Scotland's Chief Statistician today published statistics that measure progress against four of the thirty 2008-09 NHSScotland HEAT targets. Further information on each of these statistics, including key findings, is included below:

Child Healthy Weight Interventions 2008-09

These statistics highlight the number of child healthy weight interventions carried out during 2008-09 for early adopting NHS Boards.

  • A total of 313 child healthy weight interventions were carried out during 2008-09.

eHealth Statistics

These statistics show (i) the percentage utilisation of the Community Health Index (CHI) and (ii) percentage of hospital referrals received electronically (e-referrals) in NHSScotland.

  • The proportion of requests received by diagnostic laboratories where the request was identified by a valid CHI has increased by 9 percentage points from 88 per cent in April 2007 to 97 per cent in March 2009.
  • The proportion of all referrals received through SCI Gateway by NHS Boards in Scotland has increased by 15.8 percentage points from 72.7 per cent in April 2008 to 88.5 per cent in June 2009.

NHSScotland Knowledge Skills Framework (KSF) Statistics

These statistics present the percentage of staff with a KSF personal development plan in each NHS Board at the end of March 2009.

  • The percentage of staff who had an agreed KSF personal development plan increased from 14 per cent in April 2008 to 92 per cent in March 2009.

Suicide Prevention Education and Training Statistics

These statistics show the percentage of frontline NHS staff educated and trained in suicide prevention, as at end December 2008 and end June 2009.

  • As at the end of December 2008 16 per cent of frontline staff had been trained and educated in suicide prevention, increasing to 26 per cent at the end of June 2009.

The 2008-09 NHSScotland Chief Executive's Annual Report, which will provide progress against all 2008-09 HEAT targets, is scheduled to be published in November 2009. Additionally, progress against the other 2008-09 HEAT targets are routinely published by Information Services Division of NHS National Services Scotland, Scottish Government and Special Health Boards.
