Whyte & Mackay

Commenting on news that Whyte & Mackay is undertaking a major review of its organisation which could lead to the loss of up to 85 jobs in Scotland, Enterprise Minister Jim Mather said:
"The company is handling a difficult situation in a socially responsible manner, and is clear that it is not closing any of its operations around Scotland. I welcome the fact that it remains deeply committed to its Glasgow head office, and that it has strong prospects for the future, especially as regards long-term sales growth in new markets such as India.
"Clearly, this is an anxious time for the staff affected. However, in two meetings with us, the company has assured us that it is doing everything it can to avoid compulsory redundancies.
"The Scottish Government will, through Skills Development Scotland, co-ordinate local response teams through the Partnership Action for Continuing Employment (PACE) initiative, to provide help and support. Meanwhile, Scottish Development International is working with the company to support its three-year development plan."
