Influenza A H1N1 update
21/06/2009
Scotland has 60 new laboratory confirmed cases of influenza A H1N1 taking the total number to 626.
Of the new cases, 57 are in NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, one in NHS Lothian, one in NHS Highland and one is in NHS Lanarkshire.
There are currently no probable cases under investigation.
There are also 461 possible cases under investigation.
There are currently four patients with the virus being treated in hospital.
No new school closures have been reported.
Health Secretary Nicola Sturgeon said:
"Laboratory testing is now resuming for all possible cases in NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde.
"With the opening of the new swabbing centres the number of confirmed cases in the area is likely to increase in the coming days.
"It is encouraging that in areas out with Glasgow numbers of confirmed cases remain relatively low.
"However we must not get complacent and Scotland remains amongst the best prepared countries in the world to deal with pandemic flu.
"I would reiterate that the risk to the general public from this virus remains low and we can all play our part in slowing the spread by following simple hygiene procedures - like washing your hands and using tissues when coughing or sneezing."
