Office equipment framework

03/06/2009

A new way of buying office equipment in the Scottish public sector will save around £1.5 million a year.

Procurement Scotland has appointed seven suppliers to a new framework to supply products and services to the public sector for items like photocopiers, printers and scanners.

Finance Secretary John Swinney said:

"This project demonstrates that substantial savings can be achieved from collaborative procurement. As well as saving taxpayers money, products supplied through the new contract will have the highest sustainability and energy efficiency specifications.

"This framework will also help our small businesses. One Scottish SME is a direct supplier and numerous other SMEs are involved in the supply chain, giving Scottish SMEs the opportunity to win public sector business.

"This is another excellent example of procurement reform in action - working collaboratively, increasing efficiencies and saving money - money that can be reinvested in other front line services."

The total value of the contract is expected to be around £10 million per annum and the framework will run for up to four years.
