Updated flu figures
18/05/2009
Test results have now confirmed that the existing probable case of A(H1N1) flu virus is positive, Health Secretary Nicola Sturgeon has confirmed.
The patient is a 22-year-old woman from the Greenock area.
This means Scotland now has:
- 10 confirmed cases
- No probable cases
- 4 possible cases under investigation.
Ms Sturgeon said:
"This confirmation means that we now have 10 confirmed cases of H1N1 flu in Scotland. The patient's symptoms are mild and her condition is not giving cause for clinical concern.
"I would reiterate that the risk to the public from this virus remains low and that the level of person-to-person transmission in Scotland is so far very limited.
"However, it is important that we all do everything we can to limit the spread of the virus by taking simple, sensible precautions like good hand washing."
The possible cases are in the following health board areas:
Fife - 1
Forth Valley - 1
Greater Glasgow and Clyde - 1
Lothian - 1
Possible cases are people who have flu-like symptoms and have either been in contact with a confirmed case or travelled to an affected area.
Probable cases are people who have tested positive for Influenza A. Further testing is required to confirm whether they are suffering from the H1N1 strain.
