Cabinet Secretary for Health and Wellbeing Nicola Sturgeon today announced a new non-executive member appointment to Forth Valley NHS Board.
Mr James King is a CIPFA qualified accountant who spent 13 years in local government with Glasgow and Falkirk Councils and 20 years with Royal Mail Group where he was Finance Director for Scotland and N. Ireland and latterly General Manager of the Post Office Counter Network before taking early retirement in 2004. He is currently a member of The Accounts Commission, for which he receives annual remuneration of £4,500 plus £235 per additional day, and a Non-Executive Director of the NHS National Services Scotland Board, for which he receives annual remuneration of £7,904. He is also a member of the Board of Management of The Glasgow Metropolitan College and Treasurer of Stirling and District Association for Mental Health.
This appointment will be for a period of four years from April 1, 2009 to March 31, 2013.
This post is part-time with a time commitment of 8 hours per week for which the annual remuneration is £7,904.
Forth Valley NHS Board is responsible for the strategic planning of health services and the development of measures to improve the health of the community in the Forth Valley region.
This Ministerial appointment was made in accordance with Commissioner for Public Appointments in Scotland (OCPAS) Code of Practice.
All appointments are made on merit and political activity plays no part in the selection process. However, in accordance with the original Nolan recommendations, there is a requirement for appointees' political activity (if any declared) to be made public. Within the last five years, Mr King has not been involved in any political activity.
