Risk Management Authority

The Cabinet Secretary for Justice today announced an extension to the reappointment term of a member of the Risk Management Authority (RMA).
The member is:
Morag Slesser - Morag Slesser is a consultant forensic clinical psychologist and is currently Head of Psychology at the State Hospital Carstairs. She has previously worked for NHS forth valley and for the SPS. She is a former member of the Parole Board for Scotland and the Community Justice Accreditation Panel. Morag Slesser holds no other Ministerial appointments.
The initial reappointment term ran from September 1, 2008 until December 31, 2008. The term has since been extended and now ends on June 30, 2010.
The post is part-time and attracts a fee of £5,658 per annum for a time commitment of 2-3 days per month.
The RMA, which was established by the Criminal Justice (Scotland) Act 2003, is an Executive Non-Departmental Public Body with a defined remit and set of roles relating to the risk assessment and management of serious violent and sexual offenders whose liberty presents a risk to the public.
This extension to Ms Slesser's reappointment was approved by the Commissioner for Public Appointments in Scotland.
All appointments are made on merit and political activity plays no part in the selection process. However, in accordance with the original Nolan recommendations, there is a requirement for appointees' political activity (if there is any to be declared) to be made public. Within the last five years Morag Slesser has not been involved in any political activity.
