Accountant in Bankruptcy visit
08/12/2008
Staff at the Accountant in Bankruptcy will update the Minister for Community Safety Fergus Ewing on their work, when he visits Kilwinning today.
Mr Ewing will find out how the Agency is coping with the rise in insolvencies since the introduction of the Low Income Low Asset route into bankruptcy, as well as the role of the Agency in providing a range of debt solutions in difficult economic times.
Mr Ewing said:
"This Government is working to create a wealthier and fairer Scotland. We can provide opportunities for all of Scotland to flourish by increasing sustainable economic growth.
"We believe improved public services can help us to create a more successful country. The work of the Accountant in Bankruptcy has already brought benefits to Kilwinning and with the work of the agency growing the local area continues to reap the rewards through increased employment opportunities.
"I believe the Accountant in Bankruptcy has an important role to play in either healthy or weak economic circumstances. Bankruptcy is never an easy option and it is certainly not a quick way out of debt. It should not be treated lightly, but equally people should not be disadvantaged by debt.
"Given the current economic situation the role of the Agency is of particular importance and the commitment, dedication and hard work of staff is a strength that I welcome."
