Young Scottish Muslim Awards
30/10/2008
First Minister Alex Salmond will celebrate the achievements of young Scottish Muslims and the positive contribution they make to Scotland at the Young Scottish Muslim Awards in Glasgow tonight.
The event aims to recognise the hard work of young Muslims across Scotland, from community efforts through to business and sporting achievements.
As guest of honour the First Minister will pay tribute to the achievements of young Muslims over the past year.
Speaking ahead of the event the First Minister said:
"It is important we recognise the achievements and celebrate the skills of young people. The Young Scottish Muslim Awards provide a great opportunity to highlight the talents of many young Muslims and the contribution they make to Scotland.
"This event identifies the inspirational young people who have demonstrated great initiative, determination and courage. Each of the young people nominated for these awards stand as role models not just for young Muslims, but for young people everywhere.
"Economically and culturally, the Muslim community makes a significant contribution to Scotland. The Scottish Government is committed to ensuring there are opportunities for all of our young people to fulfil their potential, achieve their goals, and make a positive contribution to the future of Scotland."
The Young Scottish Muslim Awards was established in 2007 and is now in its second year.
