18/10/2008

Scots singer Sandi Thom has dedicated her forthcoming tour to Scotland's Year of Homecoming.

The 'Sandi Thom Homecoming Tour' will visit locations across Scotland in 2009, including Edinburgh, Dunfermline, Dundee, Aberdeen, Banff, Inverness, Skye, Fort William and Glasgow.

Welcoming the news, First Minister Alex Salmond said that he was delighted that the platinum selling Banffshire singer would be providing the soundtrack to the 2009 celebrations.

The First Minister said:

"Scotland's Year of Homecoming is a chance for Scotland's friends and family, and anyone who feels an affinity with our nation, to come back and reconnect with our heritage while also learning what being Scottish in the 21st century means.

"Sandi Thom is a great Scottish success story, and her forthcoming Homecoming Tour will be a fantastic way to celebrate the contribution young, creative and talented Scots have made to our modern culture.

"From Robert Burns to Sandi Thom, Scotland is undoubtedly rich in culture and artistic flair. Sandi's Homecoming Tour will be an exciting continuation of that tradition and I hope that fans young and old will enjoy the energy and uniqueness that flourishes in Scotland."

Sandi Thom said:

"I'm absolutely ecstatic about my homecoming tour.

"It will be a fantastic experience touring right across Scotland, and who knows, I might even play a few Scottish favourites from Caledonia to 500 miles!"

Scotland's Homecoming celebrations will run from Burns Night (January 25) to St Andrew's Day (November 30) 2009, across the country.

A Homecoming e-card is available to send from the Homecoming Scotland website, where details of the full programme of events can be found.
