NHS Quality Improvement Scotland

Cabinet Secretary for Health and Wellbeing, Nicola Sturgeon, today announced a new non-executive member appointment to the Board of NHS Quality Improvement Scotland.

Mr Jim Jackson is Chief Executive of Alzheimer Scotland, Scotland's major campaigning and service providing charity for people with dementia and their carers. He has worked in the Scottish Voluntary Sector since 1984, and is currently Convener of Community Care Providers Scotland which represents voluntary sector care providers. Since 2005, he has also been a member of the Advisory Board for Generation Scotland. This position is unpaid. Mr Jackson holds no other ministerial appointments.

This appointment is for a period of four years. Mr Jackson's appointment took effect from January 1, 2008 until December 31, 2011.

This post is part time with a time commitment of eight hours per week for which the annual remuneration is £7,620.

NHS QIS is a special health board which works with members of the public, patients and healthcare staff to translate the latest scientific research, expert opinion and patient experience into practical improvements that can be implemented in the health service.

This Ministerial appointments was made in accordance with Commissioner for Public Appointments in Scotland (OCPAS) Code of Practice.

All appointments are made on merit and political activity plays no part in the selection process. However, in accordance with the original Nolan recommendations, there is a requirement for appointees' political activity (if any declared) to be made public. Within the last five years, Mr Jackson has not taken part in any political activity.
