Festive workers

NHS Tayside received a Christmas visit from Minister for Public Health Shona Robison as she toured Ninewells Hospital and Medical School in Dundee today.

She met staff working during the festive period and patients who will be in over Christmas.

Ms Robison said:

"For most people this is the time of year they look forward to time off at home with their families. But it is important that we remember hospital staff who will be working through the holidays ensuring that patients are taken care of and services are uninterrupted.

"I will take the opportunity to thank the staff I meet on behalf of the people of Scotland. We rely on the services provided by the NHS 365 days of the year. I know from the many patients I meet through the course of my work how much people value the staff and excellent service they receive when they need to call on the health service.

"It is important that we all take some time to think about the work staff do to ensure that high standards of care are maintained at this time of year.

"I also hope to visit some young children who will have to spend the festive period in hospital. This is a difficult time for them and their families but I know that the staff will do everything they can to make sure they feel special even though they can't be at home."
