Cabinet Secretary for Health and Wellbeing Nicola Sturgeon today announced two new non-executive member appointments to Borders NHS Board.
Mr Adrian Lucas is an lndependent Executive Coach and lives in Peebles. He has over 34 years experience in the NHS and was formerly Chief Executive of the Scottish Ambulance Service, leading the organisation through its most significant period of modernisation and change. Adrian is also Chairman of a recruitment, training and development company. He does not hold any other ministerial appointments.
Mrs Alison Ferahi is an Organisational Development Practitioner with NHS Lothian. Her previous work includes clinical experience as a nurse, midwife and health visitor. She also has significant experience in the voluntary sector and held the positions of Chair of the Scottish Association of Young Farmers Clubs and Board Member at a European level. She does not hold any other ministerial appointments.
Both appointments are for a period of two years. Adrian Lucas' appointment takes effect from December 1, 2007 until November 30, 2009, while Alison Ferahi's appointment takes effect from February 1, 2008 until January 31, 2010.
These posts are part time with a time commitment of eight hours per week for which the annual remuneration is £7,620.
Borders NHS Board is responsible for the strategic planning of health services and the development of measures to improve the health of the community in the Borders region.
Ministerial appointments are made in accordance with Commissioner for Public Appointments in Scotland (OCPAS) Code of Practice.
All appointments are made on merit and political activity plays no part in the selection process. However, in accordance with the original Nolan recommendations, there is a requirement for appointees' political activity (if any declared) to be made public. Within the last five years, neither appointee has taken part in any political activity.
