Fife NHS Board appointments

Cabinet Secretary for Health and Wellbeing Nicola Sturgeon today announced the re-appointment of Group Captain Graham Watson and Mr Bernard Conway as Members of Fife NHS Board.
Group Captain Graham Watson is a professional engineer who served in the Royal Air Force for 31 years. During that time he held a wide range of management appointments. These included being Managing Director of Defence Munitions Beith and Director of Munitions in Scotland. He also held headquarter appointments in personnel and equipment management and supply at Royal Air Force Leuchars.
He has been a member of Fife NHS Board since 2003 and is currently Chair of Glenrothes and North East Fife Community Health Partnership. He is also a Non-Executive Director of the Scottish Legal Aid Board for which he receives remuneration of £8,474 per annum.
Mr Bernard Conway was Rector of St Columba's High School, Dunfermline for 20 years until his retiral in March 2002. He held senior management positions in secondary schools in Fife for many years and made a significant contribution to the development of education in both a Fife and Scottish context. He has been a member of Fife NHS Board since 2003 and is currently Chair of Dunfermline and West Fife Community Health Partnership. He does not hold any other ministerial appointments.
Both re-appointments will be for a period of four years from December 1, 2007 to November 30, 2011.
These posts are part time with a time commitment of eight hours per week for which the annual remuneration is £7,620.
Fife NHS Board is responsible for the strategic planning of health services and the development of measures to improve the health of the community in the Fife region.
These Ministerial appointments were made in accordance with Commissioner for Public Appointments in Scotland (OCPAS) Code of Practice.
All appointments are made on merit and political activity plays no part in the selection process. However, in accordance with the original Nolan recommendations, there is a requirement for appointees' political activity (if any declared) to be made public. Within the last five years, none of the above appointees have been involved in any political activity.
