Crown Office appointments

17/07/2007

The Lord Advocate, The Right Honourable Elish Angiolini QC, has today announced that Derek Ogg, QC, has accepted her invitation to serve as a Senior Advocate Depute.

Elish Angiolini said:

"I am delighted that Derek has accepted my invitation to serve as a Senior Advocate Depute. He has a wealth of experience and skills, which will only strengthen the already considerable talent that is evident in Crown Counsel.

"I have no doubt that he will be a valuable asset and ensure that we maintain a strong Crown Counsel team to take forward the prosecution of the most serious crime in Scotland."

New arrangements for the appointment and role of Advocate Deputes were announced in December 2002 in the document 'Modernising the Prosecution of Serious Crime - Appointment and Role of Advocate Deputes: The Way Forward'.

Advocate Deputes are referred to collectively as Crown Counsel.

Derek Ogg was admitted to the faculty of Advocates in 1989, having previously been a solicitor in private practice for a number of years. He took silk in 1999. Derek's appointment will cover the planned departure of Sean Murphy, QC.
