Greater Glasgow and Clyde NHS Board

Health Minister Andy Kerr today announced five non-executive member re-appointments to Greater Glasgow and Clyde NHS Board.

Mrs Agnes Stewart MBE is currently a member of NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde & is also Vice Chair of The Dixon Community , a voluntary organization with Day & Residential services for the elderly & carers of all ages. She was, prior to retirement, a tax advisor with a firm of Chartered Accountants in Glasgow and was also Chair of The Greater Glasgow Health Council. She does not hold any other ministerial appointments.

Mr Andrew Robertson is a former solicitor who has spent his professional life working with community based housing organisations and charities. He is currently vice chair of Greater Glasgow and Clyde NHS Board, with a number of specific responsibilities including chairing the Performance Review Group which monitors the Board's overall performance against its key targets. He is a non executive director of the Scottish Building Society, a trustee of the Princess Royal Trust for Carers and vice chair of Erskine Hospital for Ex Service men and women. He does not hold any other ministerial appointments.

Mr Peter Hamilton, a former Operations Manager with British Telecom, has served four years as Non-Executive Director serving in a number of standing committees with NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde. His past experience includes eight years as a member of Greater Glasgow Health Council, last four as Chair. He also was an active member of the Childrens Hearing System in Glasgow dealing with children from the East End of the city. He does not hold any other ministerial appointments.

Mrs Ravinder Kaur Nijjar is a teacher by profession with twenty six years experience in the primary and secondary sector. She has a strong commitment to inter faith work and is currently on the Executive committee of the Scottish Inter Faith Council and the Inter Faith Network for the UK. She is a patron for the Kisch Trust which funds inter faith projects with young people. She is a member of the Religious Observance Project Advisory Group and the Commission for Racial Equality Advisory Board (Scotland). She does not hold any other ministerial appointments.

Mr Ronnie Cleland has been involved in the NHS since the early 1990's when he was on the board of Yorkhill NHS Trust. Since then he has been chair of both west Glasgow and north Glasgow NHS trusts and is currently chair of the Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice. He is currently chair of the Scottish practice of Odgers, Ray and Berndtson, the international recruitment consultants, and a board adviser to a range of private and public organisations. He does not hold any other ministerial appointments.

Mrs Stewart's re-appointment will be for a period of two years from April 1, 2007 to March 31, 2009. The other members have all been re-appointed for a period of four years from April 1, 2007 to March 31, 2011.

These posts are part time with a time commitment of eight hours per week for which the annual remuneration is £7,490.

Greater Glasgow and Clyde NHS Board is responsible for the strategic planning of health services and the development of measures to improve the health of the community in the Greater Glasgow and Clyde region.

These Ministerial appointments were made in accordance with Commissioner for Public Appointments in Scotland (OCPAS) Code of Practice.

All appointments are made on merit and political activity plays no part in the selection process. However, in accordance with the original Nolan recommendations, there is a requirement for appointees' political activity (if any declared) to be made public. Within the last five years, none of the above appointees have been involved in any political activity.
