Health Minister Andy Kerr today announced the appointments of Mike Scott and Charles Muir as members of Grampian NHS Board.
Mike Scott is a Management Consultant and a qualified Town Planner and Housing Manager. He is a Board Member of a number of charitable and other organisations and is currently Chair of the Scottish Development Centre for Mental Health and Scarf Energy Services, Aberdeen. His previous experience was mainly with Local Government as a Chief Officer for nearly 30 years in Planning, Housing, and Health and Social Care. His current Board appointments include the Montrose Port Authority and he is also on the Reserve List for the Rent Assessment Panel for Scotland. Mr Scott does not hold any other Ministerial appointments.
Charles Muir comes from a professional background within local authority Education spanning 36 years. As a teacher he worked in schools in Lanarkshire and Glasgow, moving later into central management with Suffolk County Council. With Grampian Regional Council from 1991 he served as Education Officer and Area Education Manager until his appointment as Assistant Director of Education with Aberdeen City Council in 1996. In this, and in his subsequent post as Head of Service, he held lead responsibility for a number of health initiatives within schools and was a Director on Aberdeen Foyer and Grampian Heart Campaign Boards. He retired from his full-time post in March this year and does not hold any other ministerial appointments.
Both appointments took effect on January 1, 2007 and shall be for a four year period until December 31, 2010.
These posts are part time with a time commitment of eight hours per week for which the annual remuneration is £7,490.
Grampian NHS Board is responsible for the strategic planning of health services and the development of measures to improve the health of the community in the Grampian region.
Ministerial appointments are made in accordance with Commissioner for Public Appointments in Scotland's (OCPAS) Code of Practice.
All appointments are made on merit and political activity plays no part in the selection process. However, in accordance with the original Nolan recommendations, there is a requirement for appointees' political activity (if any declared) to be made public. Within the last fiveyears, neither Mr Scott nor Mr Muir have undertaken any political activity.
