Forth Valley NHS Board

Health Minister Andy Kerr today announced the appointment of Mr Graeme Simmers as a member of Forth Valley NHS Board.

Mr Graeme Simmers, resident in Balfron, has been appointed as a non-executive member to Forth Valley NHS Board. He was Vice Chairman of the Board, when his term of appointment expired at the end of October. A retired Chartered Accountant, he has had experience in the Private and Public sectors, having been the Chairman of a private hotels chain, a former member of the Scottish Tourist Board and past Chairman of the Scottish Sports Council. He is currently a member of Stirling University Court. He was Captain of the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews in 2001-2002. He does not hold any other ministerial appointments.

Mr Simmers' appointment takes effect on January 1, 2007 and will be for a period of four years until December 31, 2010.

This post is part time with a time commitment of eight hours per week for which the annual remuneration is £7,490.

Forth Valley NHS Board is responsible for the strategic planning of health services and the development of measures to improve the health of the community in the Forth Valley region.

This Ministerial appointment was made in accordance with Commissioner for Public Appointments in Scotland's (OCPAS) Code of Practice.

All appointments are made on merit and political activity plays no part in the selection process. However, in accordance with the original Nolan recommendations, there is a requirement for appointees' political activity (if any declared) to be made public. Within the last five years, Mr Simmers has not been involved in any political activity.
