Commonwealth Education Ministers
11/12/2006
Glasgow's bid for the 2014 Commonwealth Games will be highlighted at the 16th Commonwealth Conference of Education Ministers (CCEM) in South Africa this week.
Scotland's Education Minister Hugh Henry is chairing two stakeholder forums and holding bilateral meetings with Ministers from Canada, New Zealand and Malawi.
As he arrived in Cape Town, Mr Henry said:
"Winning these Games will inspire and encourage thousands of young people to take up the challenge of sport, improving their health, well-being and self-esteem.
"Scotland may be a small country, but we have big ambitions. The dividends the Games will bring will provide a lasting legacy for Glasgow and the nation."
16CCEM takes place from December 9-14, on the theme of 'Access to Quality Education: For the Good of All.'
15CCEM was staged in Edinburgh in 2003 and attended by delegates from 52 Commonwealth countries.
