A clear picture of climate change

06/12/2006

Environment Minister Ross Finnie introduced internationally acclaimed photographer Colin Prior at the World's Wild Places exhibition at the Glasgow Science Centre last night.

Mr Prior has spent the last ten years documenting the fast disappearing wild places of the world, from the shifting ice sheets of the Greenland to the oxygen-starved Atacama Desert to the icy spires of Pakistan's Karakoram Mountains to the absolute isolation of New Zealand's Fjiordland.

Mr Finnie said:

"The need to combat change for the sake of future generations is an ever increasing reality, yet sometimes we lose perspective of the impact that our unsustainable lifestyles actions are already having on the natural world around us.

"It's great to see one of Scotland's leading photographers raising awareness of the threats and pressures facing our natural world through such a stunning exhibition of photography. By capturing some of the effects that human pressures are placing on the environment, I hope that more people will understand that we need to start taking action now, if we are to protect the world we live in."
