More Fresh Talent arrives
14/09/2006
A group of international students are about to begin their studies in Scotland through the second year of the Executive-funded Scottish International Scholarship Programme.
A total of 21 students from six countries are taking part in the initiative, which is managed by the British Council and is aimed at graduates in science, technology and creative industries.
Minister for Finance and Public Service Reform Tom McCabe, said:
"There is absolutely no doubt that Scotland has a great deal to offer international students - a first-class education, a great quality of life, exciting cities and breathtaking countryside. That is why our scholarship programme has been so successful.
"These 21 students are outstanding graduates in their fields and Scotland will give them the opportunity to develop their talents further. The Scottish education sector is renowned the world over and these scholars will have the opportunity to learn from the some of the very best in their fields.
"I am positive the scholarships will be a rewarding experience for the students and leave a lasting impression of what Scotland has to offer. These scholars can be ambassadors for Scotland - as they go on to establish themselves here and abroad, this experience will create a lasting connection between Scotland and industry leaders and entrepreneurs across the world.
"This scholarship programme is another important part of our Fresh Talent initiative, which is helping to address the demographic challenges we face in Scotland."
The scholarship programme is just one a range of initiatives to highlight Scotland as a premier destination to live, work and study.
International students have been recognised as a key audience for Fresh Talent and a number of measures have been put in place to support them, including the Scottish International Scholarship Programme, Fresh Talent: Working in Scotland scheme and Fresh Talent: Supporting International Students Challenge Fund.
