Scottish Food Fortnight
01/09/2006
Scottish Food Fortnight was launched at Glamis Castle in Perthshire today.
The event is in its fourth year and aims to bring together producers and the public to celebrate local food and showcase the quality of Scottish produce.
Food Minister Ross Finnie said:
"Scotland enjoys an excellent worldwide reputation for its food and drink and the Scottish Executive is committed to working with the industry to open new markets at home and abroad.
"The Scottish Food and Drink Fortnight provides a valuable platform for companies to showcase the wealth and quality of their produce. The events planned demonstrate that the entire food supply chain - producers, processors and retailers-all have a part to play in maintaining a successful sustainable food sector.
"I am delighted to be at Glamis Castle today to launch officially the SFF and I am confident that the events during the fortnight will celebrate the best produce that Scotland has to offer."
During Scottish Food Week Mr Finnie will also attend the Speciality and Fine Food Fair in London on September 5.
The Speciality and Fine Food Fair is the UK's largest Trade Fair dedicated to independent and artisan producers.
Last year there were 440 exhibitors and around 5,300 visitors at the three day event. The fair continues to grow and this year there are expected to be almost 500 exhibitors, including 41 from Scotland.
