Care Homes - September 2005

The results of the September 2005 Scottish Care Homes Census are published today.
Key findings are:
- At September 2005, there were 969 care homes for older people in Scotland. These offered 38,191 places and were occupied by 33,716 residents
- * Across all client groups there were 1,504 care homes registered in Scotland offering 43,583 places
- 71 per cent of available places in care homes for older people were in rooms with en-suite facilities and 87 per cent of available places were in single rooms
- At September 2005 there were 8 fewer care homes for older people than in March 2005. These provided 100 fewer places and were occupied by 130 more residents than in March 2005
Note that 467 Care Homes have de-registered since March 2002. These establishments are now more appropriately registered as Housing Support services and have been excluded from the figures in this publication. Further details are available in Annex F of the Statistics Release.
