Scots urged to continue donations to earthquake victims

28/10/2005

Scots have been urged to continue to give generously to charities to assist victims of the Asian Earthquake.

Patricia Ferguson, the minister responsible for International Development, made the plea after meeting representatives of Islamic Relief and some of the families in Scotland who have relatives affected by the disaster.

Ms Ferguson said:

"There are many strong ties between Scotland and Kashmir so I would appeal again to the Scots' generous spirit to dig deep and give what they can.

"I hope everyone in the country can continue to harness that spirit of goodwill and all play a part in helping the relief effort. By working together we can make a difference to those who need help most.

"The Scottish Executive stands ready to offer staff to the Disasters Emergency Committee, and we are ready to respond to any request over the weeks and months ahead."
