Reappointment to Western Isles NHS Board

Health Minister Andy Kerr today announced the re-appointment of Mr David Currie as Chair of Western Isles NHS Board.
Mr Kerr said:
"I am very pleased to announce this re-appointment. Mr Currie has made extremely valuable contributions to the NHS in Scotland. I look forward to continuing to work together with him in the vital task of improving the health of the people of Scotland."
Mr David Currie has 31 years experience in Branch and Commercial Banking in Glasgow, Orkney, Aberdeen, Edinburgh and Stornoway. He is currently a Director in a Western Isles Construction Company. He has lived in Stornoway for 10 years and has been involved in a range of community organisations. He was first appointed as Chair of Western Isles NHS Board in 2001. He does not hold any other ministerial appointments.
Mr Currie's re-appointment will be for a period of four years from 1 August 2005 to 31 July 2009.
It is expected that as Chair, Mr Currie will contribute around three days per week for which the annual remuneration is £25,030.
NHS Boards are responsible for the strategic planning of health services and the development of measures to improve the health of the community in their region.
This Ministerial re-appointment was made in accordance with Commissioner for Public Appointments in Scotland (OCPAS) Code of Practice.
All appointments are made on merit and political activity plays no part in the selection process. However, in accordance with the original Nolan recommendations, there is a requirement for appointees' political activity (if any declared) to be made public. Within the last five years, Mr Currie has not been involved in any political activity.
