Cash for Edinburgh Film Festival

This year's Edinburgh International Film Festival (EIFF) will benefit from an additional £265,000 of public funding.
The additional revenue, which is on top of the Festival's core grant of £71,500, is made up £150,000 from the Scottish Executive to be channelled through Scottish Screen, £60,000 from Edinburgh City Council and an extra £55,000 from Scottish Screen.
Speaking about the announcement, the Culture Minister Patricia Ferguson said:
"I am pleased that we are able to provide the Edinburgh International Film Festival with this additional funding to allow a number of planned activities for this year to go ahead.
"The Edinburgh International Film Festival is a globally renowned film festival and plays a central role in the Edinburgh Festival activities. The public funding package will ensure activities around this year's film festival go ahead as well as ensure its continued development as a premier event for enjoying the very best of world cinema."
Ginnie Atkinson, Managing Director of EIFF added:
"We are delighted that our funders are contributing this level of support. It represents a crucial investment in this year's festival which recognises the cultural and economic value of the event."
The City of Edinburgh Council's Executive Member for Sport, Culture and Leisure, Councillor Ricky Henderson, said:
"The Edinburgh International Film Festival is an important element in the city's summer festival scene. The Council is pleased to work in partnership with the Scottish Executive and Scottish Screen to provide additional financial support to enable the 2005 Film Festival to be a significant success."
Ken Hay, Chief Executive of Scottish Screen said:
"The importance of the Edinburgh International Film Festival cannot be overestimated. Scottish Screen is delighted that with the Scottish Executive and Edinburgh City Council we have been able to secure the necessary investment for this year's event."
