Learning Centres get more investment

09/03/2005

Close to £1 million extra funding for learndirect scotland learning centres was announced today.

The £960,000 investment will ensure that learning centres are able to take advantage of new technology to benefit learners, for example upgrading hardware and software.

Speaking to the learndirect scotland annual learning centre conference in Glasgow via a video message, Deputy Lifelong Learning Minister Allan Wilson said:

"This additional investment for learndirect scotland will ensure that learners have access to the highest quality of learning centres. It will allow local learning centres to be more effective, particularly through upgrading their technology so that they can offer an even better service for learners.

"The Executive is committed to ensuring that in Scotland those who want to learn are able to do so wherever and whenever they want.

"learndirect scotland helps us achieve this through its network of over 480 learning centres across Scotland.

"I am pleased that the theme of this year's annual conference is the 'Pledge to Learners'. It is right that we concentrate on putting the learner's needs first and this extra funding will help us do that."

learndirect scotland is the name given to the learning services provided by the Scottish University for Industry.

A network of over 480 branded learning centres has been established throughout Scotland.
