Burns Heritage Park meeting

24/01/2005

A joint meeting involving Culture Minister Patricia Ferguson, leader of South Ayrshire Council, Councillor Andy Hill, and Ayr MP Sandra Osborne to consider the way forward to ensure the protection and development of Robert Burns legacy, was held in Glasgow today.

The Executive, local council, Burns monument trustees, National Trust for Scotland and other interested parties will hold further meetings in the near future to agree on the action required.

Ms Ferguson said:

"I was greatly encouraged by the constructive meeting that I held today with representatives from South Ayrshire Council.

"There is clearly a willingness on the part of the council to work with all others involved to reach agreement, as soon as possible, to ensure the properties associated with the Bard are not only retained, but where possible, enhanced to provide world class visitor attractions.

Councillor Hill, said:

"I am delighted that everyone is clearly working together for the benefit of protecting the heritage of Burns. Today's meeting has clarified the joint working we are about to undertake.

"I am pleased that the Minister has said that she is prepared to come to South Ayrshire soon to visit the Burns attractions and to take part in further discussions."
