UK Fisheries Ministers have reappointed Mr Andrew Dewar-Durie as Chairman of the Sea Fish Industry Authority (SFIA).

Mr Dewar-Durie has been chairman of the SFIA since 2002. He served as deputy chairman from 2000 until being appointed chair.

The appointment is from May 1, 2005, to April 31, 2007. All appointments are made on merit and political activity plays no part in the selection process.

Mr Dewar-Durie does not hold any other Ministerial appointments and has not declared a political interest.

The annual salary for the post, for 1.75 days per week, is £27,475.

Mr Dewar-Durie's career began in the whisky industry, initially involved in marketing and subsequently senior management. He was managing director of Allied Distillers from 1992 to 1997 and served as chairman from 1997 to 1999. He is a former chairman of Confederation of British Industry Scotland (1997-1999), having previously served as vice chairman in 1996.

He has also been a non-executive director of Britannic Asset Management (2001) and a director of the Edinburgh Military Tattoo (2000). He joined the Sea Fish Industry Authority in April 2000.

Established in 1981 to promote the efficiency of the sea fish industry, the 12 member Sea Fish Industry Authority has powers to undertake research and development, give advice, provide training and promote the marketing and consumption of fish.

The SFIA consists of four independent members, and eight members who represent a range of industry interests.
