Health Minister Andy Kerr today announced the appointment of
Dr David Cameron as a new member to Grampian NHS Board.
Dr Cameron is a biochemist with a career mainly linked to the food industry starting in 1964 when he worked with Unilever in fish research and then meat product production.
After graduating from the University of Aberdeen in 1973 he lectured at The Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen until 1989 on a variety of undergraduate and post graduate courses on nutrition, food microbiology and food safety.
Since 1990 he has run his own business as a food safety consultant/trainer and food microbiologist.
He is a Chartered Biologist and a Fellow of the Royal Environmental Health Institute of Scotland being President of the Institute in both 1993 and 2004. He does not hold any other ministerial appointments
The appointment will be from January 1, 2005, for a period of four years.
It is expected that as a Member he will contribute around eight hours per week for which the annual remuneration is £7,305.
Grampian NHS Board is responsible for the strategic planning of health services and the development of measures to improve the health of the community in the Grampian region. It has an annual budget of over £570 million.
This Ministerial appointment was made in accordance with Commissioner for Public Appointments in Scotland (OCPAS) Code of Practice.
All appointments are made on merit and political activity plays no part in the selection process. However, in accordance with the original Nolan recommendations, there is a requirement for appointees' political activity (if any declared) to be made public. Within the last five years, Mr Cameron has not been involved in any political activity.
