Input Output tables and multipliers 2001
15/12/2004
The Input-Output Tables and Multipliers for Scotland 2001 are published today.
Input-output tables provide a detailed snapshot of the supply and demand linkages that exist within the economy.
The tables are used in economic policy making to assess economic development strategies and to predict the knock-on effects of various economic events.
The tables provide industry weights key to the production of the Executive's chainlinked Quarterly GDP series.
The first chainlinked GDP index was published by the Executive on January 28, 2004.
The 2001 Input-Output tables were used to provide updated weights for inclusion in 2004Q2 GDP index.
The tables also provide the framework for production of Tourism Satellite Accounts and the estimation of the contribution of tourism to Scottish GDP - both analyses are presently being developed by the Executive.
The tables are used extensively by academics and consultants to provide the core assumptions behind a range of economic forecasting models.
