Scottish Budget roadshow
19/11/2004
A Scottish Budget roadshow was held in Dumbarton last night. Further roadshows will take place in Arbroath on November 25 and Falkirk on November 29.
The event was attended by a specially-invited cross-section of people from West Dunbartonshire.
Afterwards Deputy Minister for Finance and Public Service Reform Tavish Scott said:
"The Executive is supporting the good work taking place in West Dunbartonshire with record levels of funding.
"West Dunbartonshire Council will receive almost £160 million in council funding next year - an increase of 4.4 per cent on this year.
"Recent Executive funding of almost £7 million was also allocated to West Dunbartonshire for maintenance and improvements to the Erskine Bridge and Dumbuck junction.
"Consultation is an important feature of Devolution - and this roadshow is a genuine opportunity for us to get the views of people of West Dunbartonshire and what they think the key areas for spending are. We are listening to the people of West Dunbartonshire - and we are acting.
"Our aim is to build a better Scotland. That means improving the delivery of public services and closing the opportunity gap so every single person in Scotland has the opportunity to fulfil their potential.
"My priority is to ensure that we spend money wisely in line with our key objectives. Our top priority is to grow our economy to help deliver high quality public services.
"We will squeeze every last penny out of every last pound to make sure your hard-earned money results in tangible achievements.
"We will match our decisions with your priorities and account to you for every pound we spend in our £27 billion budget for the next financial year.
"We are determined to improve the quality of life of every single person in Scotland. I hope to use this opportunity to find out the challenges West Dunbartonshire faces and also get to know the many positive things that are happening in the area."
