A new member has been appointed to the Scottish Committee of the Council on Tribunals.
Ms Lyndy Roberts lives in Stonehaven and works as a solicitor with the Care Commission in Dundee.
She is also an associate lecturer, monitor and consultant for the Open University having previously worked as a Reporter to the Childrens Panel and as a welfare rights officer.
The appointment, announced by Justice MInister Cathy Jamieson, will be for four years and will run from December 1, 2004.
The post is part-time and attracts a remuneration of £8,924 for a time commitment of 35 days per annum. Ms Roberts does not hold any other public appointments.
The Council on Tribunals and its Scottish Committee are independent bodies first established in 1958 and now operating under the Tribunals and Enquiries Act 1992.
The Scottish Committee comprises three members of the full Council (appointed jointly by the Lord Chancellor and Scottish Ministers), plus a further four persons appointed solely by Scottish Ministers.
This Ministerial public appointment was made in accordance with the Commissioner for Public Appointments in Scotlands Code of Practice.
All appointments are made on merit and political activity plays no part in the selection process. However, in accordance with the original Nolan recommendations, there is a requirement for appointees political activity (if there is any to be declared) to be made public. In this case, no political activity has been declared.
