Reappointment to ambulance service

Health Minister Malcolm Chisholm today announced the re-appointment of Iain McMillan CBE as a Member of the Scottish Ambulance Service Board. His new term will run from April 1 to March 31, 2008.
The Minister said:
"I am very pleased to announce this re-appointment. Mr McMillan brings a diverse range of skills and experience which will be of continued benefit to the Scottish Ambulance Service Board. I look forward to continuing to work together with him in the vital task of improving the health of the people of Scotland."
The SAS provides pre-hospital treatment and care for some 500,000 accident and emergency patients a year.
It also provides non-emergency services for transporting patients to and from hospitals and clinics for elective treatment and therapies.
It has an annual budget of around £120 million. It is expected that Board Members will contribute around eight hours per week for which the annual remuneration is £7,160.
Iain McMillan CBE, 52, is the Director of CBI Scotland, the UK's leading business representative organisation. He is the Chair of the Scottish Ambulance Service's Audit Committee and is also a Board member of the Scottish Qualifications Authority, where he chairs both the Audit Committee and Remuneration Committee. He was appointed to the Board in April 2000. He is currently a Member of the Board of Scottish Qualifications Authority for which he receives an annual remuneration of £4,119.49.
All appointments are made on merit and political activity plays no part in the selection process. However, in accordance with the original Nolan recommendations, there is a requirement for appointees' political activity to be made public. Mr McMillan has not been involved in any political activity within the last five years.
